The "Scholastic Chess Young Masters" is a FIDE-rated 5 round Swiss with a prize-pool of HK$ 3000. Open to a maximum of 24 eligible players.

​

  • Time control: 15 minutes plus 10 seconds per move (15/10)

​

Eligibility - players under the age of 18, a FIDE ID, and satisfying at least one of the following criteria:

​​​

  • having a published FIDE rating

  • having an HKCL rating of at least 1800,

  • finished top 2 in Division A of a Scholastic Chess "Juniors" tournament.  Please note that a top 2 finish in Division A of our "Triple 10" round-robin events will not meet this requirement.

The Young Masters

​

Address - 11/F Kennedy Town Community Centre, 12 Rock Hill Street, Kennedy Town.

​

Eligibility of players is limited to those born within 18 years of the 

tournament month, e.g., on or after August 1, 2006, for the August, 2024 event; on or after December 1, 2016, for the  December 2024 event and so on. See additional criteria at left.

​

A FIDE ID is mandatory..

 

The Tournament - will be played in 5 rounds using the Swiss System pairing method. For purposes of tie breaking we will apply "direct encounter" only.

​

Prizes

The top player receive a trophy, and the top 3 players will receive medals.  The top 3 players will also receive Festival Walk shopping vouchers as follows: 

​

1st Place - HK$ 1500​ + Trophy/Gold medal

2nd Place - HK$ 1000 + Silver medal

3rd Place - HK$ 500 + Bronze medal

Schedule

The 'Player & Parent Pack' will be sent out by email 2 days before the events, however, pairings are still subject to change up until the starting  time.  Alternatively, you can also access the directions and general player information on the page banner above.

Registration and Fees

Enrollment in this tournament is limited to ensure we have adequate arbiters monitoring every game.  You may register by using the relevant registration link at the top of this page. The registration fee is HK $450 per player per tournament. On the day registrations will not be processed.

​

12:45 - 13:30          Round 1

13:40 - 14:25          Round 2

14:35 - 15:20          Round 3

15:30 - 16:15          Round 4

16:25 - 17:10          Round 5

17:15 - 17:45          Awards Ceremony

​

Refund Policy:

Registration fees are not refundable or transferable for withdrawals within one week of the event. If you plan to withdraw please notify us as soon as possible to help facilitate the smooth running of the tournament. Registration will not be refunded or transferred if the player is a  no-show on the day.
