Parents FAQ

Who can take part in the tournaments?

All children who meet the age requirements are welcome.

Players of any level can participate — from complete beginners to experienced tournament players.

Do parents need to be present?

Parents are welcome to stay at the venue. For younger or first-time players, parental presence is encouraged for comfort and support.

Is this suitable for a first chess tournament?

Absolutely!

We are happy to welcome first-time tournament players. Our events are designed to be friendly, well-supervised, and educational. Arbiters are always available to help children understand the rules and feel comfortable.

How can my child become a club member?

Club membership is available to students who enrol in any Scholastic Chess training programme (group or private).

Members receive discounted tournament fees and access to club benefits.

How are divisions formed?

Players are grouped into small divisions (up to 6 players) based on publicly available ratings or our assessment of their level. This ensures fair and enjoyable games for everyone.

Why divisions?

Players are grouped by playing strength so everyone competes at a similar level and has a fair chance to earn awards.
